God’s Holy Festivals vs Our Holidays

One of the biggest truth hits I took was that of Holy Festivals not holidays. I’d grown up hearing Christians calling our “put Christ back into Christmas” and things along those lines. When I became “Messianic” I quickly learned that our celebrations are NOT in the Bible. God’s however are. Let’s open this up with two of our biggest holidays.

Every year we get to the biggest holiday during the winter months. We have our warm houses and complain about scraping off our cars and complain or enjoy winter. We need to remember that when Jesus walked as man many people WALKED everywhere. Some people had horses and some had donkeys, but the majority of people walked. Towns were built around foot travel. Walking was the biggest transportation.

This is important as we know from the Gospels that people traveled to see the baby Jesus. But if you look at ANY account of the birth that shepherds were in the fields. This one fact is huge.

The shepherds were “in the fields” and according to Luke’s gospel they were guarding flocks of sheep

“That night there were shepherds staying in the fields nearby, guarding their flocks of sheep.” Luke‬ ‭2:8‬ ‭

This has huge implications. When did they have to stay in the fields? Lambing season. Why? Predators would come to eat the lambs and a constant watch had to be provided. When is lambing season? The springtime not winter. Also that census would have had people walking in the worst of conditions, not just some people but a mass migration of everybody returning back to the males hometown. No leader of nations would have EVER ordered it to be done during the worst of weather. It’s just that simple. You can look up this on your own.

We do have the birth of Messiah in all four accounts. We even have His lineage listed off, what we do NOT have is His birthday. There is no mention of the month, and the day what so ever. The Roman Greco mindset cannot fathom this and people then “need” a day to celebrate because we celebrate birthdays in the modern age.

In the first century when Jesus waked the earth as man those early Jewish people were NOT in the practice of celebrating “birthdays” so it makes sense that there was a recording of the birth but not a day, or month given. Not to mention that our months today would NOT line up with the Hebrew months. Which they still do not today according to our Roman calendar vs the Hebrew Calendar. One reason is the solar vs the lunar way of counting. But that is too big a topic to add in here. You should look these facts up also for yourself.

So no day or month was ever recorded, the birth of the messiah is the gift, not the day to celebrate. Everyday we should celebrate Jesus not just one day a year. But where did this December 25th come from? Would you believe the same place birthdays came from or Easter or anything else… pagan customs, you know what the Bible Commands us not to adopt. If you look up the history or origins of birthdays you will find that it started with magic. There are many writings on this fact easily searchable online. With this all said the cake and candles theme was related to idol worship, we know the Greeks celebrated this with their gods and goddesses along with the giving of gifts. “The lore of birthdays” written in 1952 outlined this so there are even books on the subject. A full write up done well can be found at https://www.cogwriter.com/birthdays.htm which is interesting to read. I knew the information but not about the book until I read this writing.

From all the writings I’ve read on this subject birthdays were not observed until somewhere around the fourth to fifth century. Why? Most “Christians” were Jewish and the practice of being Torah focused, loving God and loving others was key. Self promotion or self worship was not a thing in that culture.

We know that around this time Christmas appeared to be celebrated among Christians and Roman emperors even started to keep the holiday observance. Within the fourth to fifth century changes were solidified that came from the traditions of the foreign nations that God’s people were now becoming part of. The blending started there. Keep in mind satan desires Christians to fall out of God’s lineage to his. Blending and also the modern lukewarm body is designed to drive religion in and faith out. I’d say from the fourth century until now the twenty first we have been washed of much of the Bible and teachings. They all have been watered down. Blending us into the other nations.

We know from extensive sources that the cult of mythras also came up and into the melting and blending pot around this time as it was popular. December 25 was the celebration day for their Sun-God Mithra. We know that since birthdays were Greek and that Romans took to Mithraism we can see that they would have adapted that day as well in an attempt to win over those within that religion as we see that Christianity would envelop all the other practices of that time once Roman leaders recognized it.

We can look up these facts anywhere. Let’s try,

The World Book Encyclopedia notes,

Christmas…In 354 A.D., Bishop Liberius of Rome ordered the people to celebrate on December 25. He probably chose this date because the people of Rome already observed it as the Feast of Saturn, celebrating the birthday of the sun (Sechrist E.H. Christmas. World Book Encyclopedia, Volume 3. Field Enterprises Educational Corporation, Chicago, 1966, pp. 408-417).

There are many many many more sources and we with the internet can look up truth just as fast as they can cover it up. Just put into your browser history of Christmas, or Origen of Sunday, or history of birthdays or what ever part you wish to look up. You will be blown away with the deviation Christianity has taken from the Bible. It’s no wonder we can create a new Jesus for a time when all sin is worshipped. Why? We do this because we deviated from how the Bible calls us to live.

I thought I would throw in a few for points.

If we dig into December 25th one word we see is Christmas. If in wiki we click on that then get to entomology we are lead to the history. After a few clicks we can read ““early Christians connected Jesus to the Sun through the use of such phrases as “Sun of righteousness.” The Romans marked the winter solstice on December 25. The first recorded Christmas celebration was in Rome on December 25, 336.“”

Notice it said (Connected Jesus) to the sun. There was no direct link and this meant that early Christians under the influence of the nations they were not supposed to emulate picked up sun god worship and tied Jesus into that cultures practices. This is forbidden in the Bible where it says one of several passages “““When you enter the land the Lord your God is giving you, be very careful not to imitate the detestable customs of the nations living there. For example, never sacrifice your son or daughter as a burnt offering. And do not let your people practice fortune-telling, or use sorcery, or interpret omens, or engage in witchcraft, or cast spells, or function as mediums or psychics, or call forth the spirits of the dead. Anyone who does these things is detestable to the Lord. It is because the other nations have done these detestable things that the Lord your God will drive them out ahead of you. But you must be blameless before the Lord your God. The nations you are about to displace consult sorcerers and fortune-tellers, but the Lord your God forbids you to do such things.”” Deuteronomy‬ ‭18:9-14‬ ‭

Notice sacrificing children (abortion), and the list includes a bunch of things the church today participates in with Halloween, and other various practices. The words detestable and forbids should warn us but fail to because we believe we can pick and choose what we follow out of the Bible.

So, sun god worship was prevalent in the society then and worshiping anything created is called idolatry. Let’s look,

““You must not make for yourself an idol of any kind or an image of anything in the heavens or on the earth or in the sea. You must not bow down to them or worship them, for I, the Lord your God, am a jealous God who will not tolerate your affection for any other gods. I lay the sins of the parents upon their children; the entire family is affected—even children in the third and fourth generations of those who reject me. But I lavish unfailing love for a thousand generations on those who love me and obey my commands.”

‭‭Exodus‬ ‭20:4-6‬ ‭

You MUST NOT worship anything God created. Listed is anything in the heavens, on the earth, or in the sea. The sun is created according to Genesis Chapter One. This worship is to be for God. Thus sun god worship is an abomination. Linking Jesus to the “sun” and calling the Son of the Most High the “sun of righteousness ” and marking his birthday as the winter solstice used for pagan worship changes the very deity of Christ. Forcing Jesus to become pagan and anti biblical. The Bible says one thing, man says another. Now blending took biblical Jesus and splintered off making a pagan Jesus. It’s no wonder why we can say that we can change things to suit us. We have with the very person of Jesus. Relationship or faith became nothing more then one more religion which have us the thousands within Christianity today. Now we follow man not the Bible and we condemn any bible believer like myself.

If we continue in wiki even for a moment we see this,

The feast regained prominence after 800, when Charlemagne was crowned emperor on Christmas Day. Associating it with drunkenness and other misbehavior, the Puritans banned Christmas during the Reformation.[50] It was restored as a legal holiday in 1660, but remained disreputable. In the early 19th century, Christmas was reconceived by Washington Irving, Charles Dickens, and other authors as a holiday emphasizing family, children, kind-heartedness, gift-giving, and Santa Claus.[51]

Funny that there is nothing biblical in the holiday. Jesus was never in there to begin with. And yet writers were helpful in adding yet more paganism to and already pagan holiday. The myth of Santa Claus is born. Just what we need, more layers to the foreign nation mythology onion.

Santa, besides being “saint” Nicolas which by the way no human is merited above another as being holy, righteous, or whatever biblically. We are all sinners and not favorited with the exception of those who do God’s will. Jesus taught love god and love others. The how to is the Ten Commandments or the Torah (first five biblical books) just Incase you wanted to understand what doing God’s Will looks like.

So if we look into the Santa myth we can find this,

“Saint Nicolas” was a fourth century Christian saint. Hmmm, catholic saint perhaps as the Bible is against esteeming one man above another. But let’s look into this myth or legend.

This can be traced to Sinterklaas which was Dutch, then this can be traced to the Wild Hunt of Wodan. Let’s look further and we see that this Wodan is none other than the god Odin favored among the Germanic people. This is foreign God worship traced back to Odin.

We need go no further as the Bible says,

““You must not have any other god but me.”

‭‭Exodus‬ ‭20:3‬ ‭

The centuries since the fourth have built customs anti-biblical and anti-God doctrines which with a single afternoon can be traced back to everything but the Bible.

I suggest you studying this on your own investigating for yourself and NOT take my word for it. But also not take any other single man’s word or your churches word for it. See what the Bible says. Do that, or you risk eternal life and pick up the death card clutching onto the traditions of men instead of the very word of God. Who do you believe? I believe God who created all there is. By now your head hurts and you wish you could just forget that the truth has convicted you as it did me. Look, we have many generations of junk to get through and see the biblical truth that God wants for us. Not the traditions of all other nations.

I will stop here with this last point. Leviticus 23. We see the seven festivals we are to follow. If you believe Jesus you just believe God, if you believe both you just believe the Bible. To not do so means you are making for yourself a god. Just like golden calf worship. That is idolatry and an abomination to God.

The Holy Festivals God Commands in the Bible are,

Seventh Day Shabbat (weekly Sabbath not Sunday)

Passover

Unleavened Bread

First Fruits

Weeks (Pentecost)

Trumpets

Atonement

Booths (Tabernacles)

Now before you go all “these are Jewish only” on me. Here is one verse you should grasp.

“For this community there will be the same law for you as for the foreigner living with you; this is a permanent regulation through all your generations; the foreigner is to be treated the same way before ADONAI as yourselves. The same Torah and standard of judgment will apply to both you and the foreigner living with you.’” (vi)” B’midbar (Numbers) 15:15-16‬ ‭CJB‬‬

Who is the foreigner? We the Grafted In are. Let’s see what Paul says on this…

“But some of these branches from Abraham’s tree—some of the people of Israel—have been broken off. And you Gentiles, who were branches from a wild olive tree, have been grafted in. So now you also receive the blessing God has promised Abraham and his children, sharing in the rich nourishment from the root of God’s special olive tree. But you must not brag about being grafted in to replace the branches that were broken off. You are just a branch, not the root.” Romans‬ ‭11:17-18‬ ‭

So there you have it. Everything you need to start looking up biblical truth instead of mans doctrines rooted in sin god worship. Happy digging.

One last point.

Look up a wiki on solar diety.

A solar deity (also sun god or sun goddess) is a sky deity who represents the Sun, or an aspect of it, usually by its perceived power and strength. Solar deities and Sun worship can be found throughout most of recorded history in various forms. The Sun is sometimes referred to by its Latin name Sol or by its Greek name Helios. The English word sun stems from Proto-Germanic *sunnǭ.[1]

Sun god worship is something that was in full swing during the third and fourth century. It was passed down to Christianity the biblical version to make Christianity more palatable to the other religious movements within that time period.

For those of us who follow not just believe in Jesus we believe our bibles and because of that, follow our bibles (Jesus is the word made flesh John 1) and thus believe Jesus who is one with His Father God this we believe God.

Shalom ~M~
